Charleston City Market. Rows of historic buildings full of artisans and their crafts found in the center of downtown.
In stark contrast to the genteel city lies Arthur Ravenal Bridge over the Cooper River separating Charleston and Mt. Pleasant.
Typical historic homes in Charleston's Historic District. Homes and streets are surrounded with old trees. Even the alleyway is inviting! Below was the 1600's home of the governor of the Carolinas, Thomas Smith.
Gullah Culture is significant here. This is one of many people selling personally handmade sweetgrass baskets.
This is the famous Circular Congregational Church in Charleston where some of the graves go back to the 1695. 150 of them were dated before the Declaration of Independence!
Boone Hall Plantation is the country's oldest working plantation. The road to the home is lined with several- hundred year old live oak trees.
The entry road is also lined with slave houses (2 families per house) who were the house servants. In the mid 1800's there were 300 slaves.
Charleston's Ft. Sumter
For our 37th Anniversary we took a sunset dinner cruise around Charleston. The bridge over the Cooper River is spectacularly lit up. A lovely evening!

The Outer Banks, a long narrow strip of land that curves up the east coast in the Atlantic. At times you could see the Atlantic and the inland waters at the same time as some of it was only 1/2 mi wide.
Kittyhawk NC at the field where the famous 1st flight of the Wright Brothers took place.
