We remained in Mesa for the month of January mostly for our son, JC and grandson, Carter’s Baptism late in the month. Kyle also had a move late in January which brought him to Mesa for the event. It was great to have our whole family together just before we left for 8-9 months. It was also special to get to know JC’s wife, Christina’s extended family better.
Really tough to say goodbye to family and friends in Mesa as we left the 31st of January and headed south toward Tucson.

Our Trip from British Columbia to Mesa, Arizona
From Kamloops we took off in early September on what was intended to be a leisurely 3 weeks getting to Mesa, AZ. We hoped to travel with the mantra of 2/2/2. No more than 2 hundred miles, get there by 2:00, and spend at least 2 nights. It would have been fine if we were just seeing family and friends along the way but Noooo! David felt we could get a “few” logistical things handled along the way.
Importation of the RV, international move of our stuff, new phones, lap tops, internet, buying our car, getting a brake system and rigging for towing, and adding satellite DirecTV mobile dish were just some of the things we managed along the way.
Yet we were still having a fabulous time until our inverter/charger got fried.
From Red Bluff we limped all the way to Mesa having to keep moving or disconnecting our entire bank of batteries every day to keep them charged. We made the very best of it and arrived in Mesa to get our inverter replaced October 3rd.
With several wonderful side trips, in Mesa we have been using Val Vista Village (David affectionately calls it a “Convalescent Home”) as our home base until our son JC and Grandson Carter get baptised at the end of January. Activities have included a lot of golf, water volley ball, pickelball, pool, and working out at health clubs.
What a joy it has been to watch Carter grow up so fast. JC and Christina are both wonderful hosts and parents. It will be hard to leave when we head out on the “real” adventure slowly moving across the Gulf Coast taking in new sights, sounds, and the spring Bird migration.
